Our Statement on the Occupation of Minnesota by the Federal Government

At AllCompanion Pet Care, our mission is rooted in compassion for all animals, humans included. We believe that healthy interspecies connections help build a world that is kinder and more just for every being. Because humans are animals too, human rights are inseparable from the rights and well-being of beyond-human animals. We cannot detach the suffering of any member of our community from our commitment to kindness and dignity.

We stand with our community in Minnesota during this fight against fascism. On January 7, 2026, 37-year-old Minneapolis resident Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot by a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during a federal enforcement operation in our city. Good — a U.S. citizen, mother, poet, and neighbor — was killed in an encounter that has deeply shaken our community and led to widespread protests, calls for accountability, and legal actions regarding the conduct of federal agents.

These events are part of a larger pattern of enforcement that many people experience as intimidation, fear, and harm, particularly for Black, Brown, Indigenous, immigrant, and other marginalized communities. For many, the fear we feel now is not new. Instead, it mirrors longstanding injustices that have been normalized for too long.

In response to ICE sightings in our neighborhoods over recent days, I have been delaying work most days to respond directly by alerting neighbors, helping ensure that ICE does not intimidate, isolate, or detain innocent people, and standing with our community in real time. If you, your neighbor, family members, or friends need meals or groceries delivered, a ride somewhere, or free or reduced-cost pet care because you are unable to go to work, please reach out. I am here for you all.

If you are able and willing, we need more people on the streets. Bring a whistle and your charged phone, and reach out for information on how to safely observe these aggressors. When we blow our whistles and record what we see, that simple act often deters escalations — and if it doesn’t, at least it creates a record that can be used to hold agents accountable in the future.

We are committed to standing in solidarity with our neighbors, friends, colleagues, and families who deserve safety, respect, and justice. We reject any justification of violence or intimidation. We reject policies that erode the humanity of our community members. We believe migration and movement are natural, earthly rights, and that arbitrary borders and laws should never prevent basic dignity and human connection.

At AllCompanion Pet Care, our care extends beyond pet services. We are a part of this community and we will continue to support you with compassion, honesty, and solidarity.

Wishing you love and safety,

Drae Solberg
